Making a Lounge Comfortable for Dementia Care
A lounge should support rest, company and enjoyable activities. Start with the person’s preferred seat and routine.
Review the setup
Can they reach a drink and recognise what they need? Is the route to the door clear? Try modest adjustments before replacing familiar furniture.
Make activities inviting
Offer one chosen activity rather than several competing items. Review background sound with the person and offer a quieter place if desired.
Check physical support
Seek advice when getting into or out of a chair is difficult. Furniture raisers must be compatible and suitable; do not improvise height adjustments.
