Creating a Comfortable Bedroom for Dementia Care
A bedroom should feel familiar and make night-time routines manageable. Ask about comfort and review getting into bed, reaching essentials and finding the toilet.
Review assistance
Agree how the person summons help. Discuss persistent sleep difficulties with their healthcare team rather than relying on a new pillow or clock.
Assess bed equipment
Bed rails and grab handles need individual assessment and compatibility checks. They can introduce entrapment or climbing risks. Do not fit rails simply to keep someone in bed.
Plan alert responses
A movement alert needs someone able to respond and a testing plan. It does not replace suitable assistance or guarantee that a fall will be prevented.
