Choosing Clear Signage for Dementia Care
This guide is about room and direction signs, not medical symptoms. For concerns about symptoms, read our dementia symptoms guide and speak to a GP.
Test the message
Decide what the sign communicates. Try a short word and image with intended users rather than assuming every symbol will be understood.
Check positioning
Review the background, light and approach from standing or seated positions. Trial a sample and observe whether people find their destination more easily.
Check specific claims
Ask for material, fixing and safety information for the sign being purchased. Do not assume all signage is fire-rated. Room signs do not replace required safety signage.
