Choosing Aids for Everyday Independence
A useful aid supports something the person wants to do. It cannot guarantee independence, and a simple familiar solution may work better than a complicated device.
Define the task
Identify whether the problem involves grip, reach, recognition or remembering a step. Describe what a helpful change would look like.
Try and review
Check instructions and dimensions, allow practice and review whether the aid helps without adding confusion.
Take care with medicines
A pill organiser or reminder does not make medication management safe on its own. Discuss the system with a pharmacist or care team. Never crush or alter medicines unless a qualified professional confirms it is appropriate.
