Three Ways to Support Everyday Life with Dementia
Start with one task the person wants to keep doing. Support is more meaningful when it follows their priorities rather than a shopping list.
1. Ask and observe
With permission, look at where the task becomes difficult. Is it recognising an item, gripping it, remembering a sequence or becoming tired?
2. Try one manageable change
Consider a clearer label, a simpler setup or a more comfortable grip. Explain the change, allow practice and keep familiar routines where they work.
3. Review and seek help
Check whether the change is useful. Stop if it adds confusion or distress. An occupational therapist can help with equipment, transfers or several interacting difficulties.
