After a Dementia Diagnosis: Practical First Steps
A diagnosis brings many questions. You do not need to solve every practical issue immediately. Begin with the information and support the person wants now.
Clarify next steps
Ask who to contact, what follow-up is planned and what support has been recommended. Write down questions before appointments.
Make a small plan
List what is working and what is difficult. Choose one priority and involve the person in decisions about help and equipment.
Build support
Ask about local dementia support and a care needs assessment where appropriate. Agree who will help with arrangements while respecting wishes and privacy.
